What does getting implants involve?
At Fresh Dental Care, getting implants involves at least three appointments.
First visit
If Dr. Yoon determines you’re a candidate for implants, he administers a local anesthetic and inserts a number of posts into your jaw. Following the placement procedure, he prescribes pain medication and antibiotics and provides care instructions.
Second visit
Several months later, when the implants finish integrating with your jaw, you return to the office. Dr. Yoon takes impressions of your mouth and sends them to a dental laboratory that manufactures your custom restoration.
Third visit
When the dental lab completes your restoration, you visit Dr. Yoon for the final time. He administers a local anesthetic and attaches your restoration to your implants. Afterward, Dr. Yoon polishes your teeth and explains how to care for your implants.
How do I care for implants?
Caring for implants is similar to caring for your natural teeth. Dr. Yoon and the team recommend:
- Brushing your teeth twice daily
- Visiting Fresh Dental Care every six months for an oral exam and teeth cleaning
- Avoiding bad habits like nail-biting
- Wearing a mouthguard during physical activity
